I am currently acting principal viola of the Camellia Symphony Orchestra, and in this concert I have the great pleasure of playing the viola solo for Strauss' Don Quixote. This piece features Susan Lamb Cook on cello as Don Quixote, and my part plays the role of Sancho Panza. This piece is a wonderful example of the way a story can be told through music. This concert also features Mozart's Symphony No. 25 in G minor. This concert will be at the Sacramento City College Performing Arts Center on Saturday March 24 at 7:30pm, with a pre-concert talk at 6:45pm. For more information about Camellia's current season, please visit their website, and for tickets please click here. I hope to see you there!
This year I will be a chamber music coach at the Mono Lake Music and Ecology Camp! I attended this camp as a camper for several years when I was young, and am now returning as a coach. This unique camp features morning hikes and excursions to teach students about nature and ecology, and afternoon chamber music sessions. At the end of the week students give an informal concert to show off what they've accomplished. I cannot say enough good things about this camp--I truly love the experience. The music is fun, the Mono basin is beautiful, and the food is good too! All students ages 12-18 of intermediate or advanced level are welcome. To learn more about applying to the camp, please visit the Mono Lake Music and Ecology Camp website.
This coming Sunday I will be appearing in Sogol's junior recital as a member of a viola quartet. After Sogol's performance as a solo violist, we will be playing an arrangement of Mendelssohn's Adagio from String Sinfonia No. 7, and a modern viola quartet piece by Jay Cloidt. This is a short, free concert at the new UCD Pitzer Center. You can learn more about Sogol's recital (and other UCD students' recitals) by visiting the UCD Music website.
This Christmas season I will be performing on viola at the Fremont Presbyterian Church in Sacramento as part of their Glorious Sounds of Christmas concert series. Other dates in this concert series are December 10th and 11th. Tickets are FREE: go to the Fremont website to reserve your tickets.
